The opportunity

In large organisations, knowledge often lives everywhere and nowhere at once. It's scattered across intranets, handbooks, wikis and file repositories.

Teams waste time searching or chasing information that’s outdated, inconsistent or hidden behind permissions.
When I joined the project, AireBrain’s goal was ambitious but clear: create an AI-powered search engine that could understand context, surface verified sources and make finding answers feel effortless.

Where design comes in

My role was to make intelligence feel intuitive.
That meant designing an interface that looked simple, but did a lot of thinking behind the scenes, parsing natural language, presenting trusted results and showing exactly where each answer came from.

I worked closely with product, data and engineering teams to define what 'trust' looks like in an AI search experience. Every interaction needed to be transparent, explainable and build confidence.

Design in action

By mapping the current search journey and identified key pain points, from confusing query behaviour to unclear results.
Then I prototyped a conversational flow that allowed users to ask natural questions, explore answers and see their verified sources in one view.

Key design principles:

  • Clarity over cleverness: AI shouldn’t hide logic. It should show it.
  • Trust through transparency: every response displays document titles, locations and verification indicators.
  • Familiarity with flexibility: the interface adapts to dark/light mode and offers tools to save, share and group collections.

What changed

  • The result is an AI search experience that feels human.
  • Users can now ask questions in plain language and instantly see verified, sourced answers. No more guessing or switching between systems.
  • Teams spend less time chasing information and more time applying it.
  • HR, IT and management benefit from fewer repetitive queries.
  • Employees feel empowered to find answers independently.

The impact

AireBrain delivers improvements in knowledge accessibility, employee efficiency, and trust in information systems. It reduces reliance on support teams and empowers employees to self-serve with confidence.
